Yesterday, my husband and I drove 3 hours away to spend our day in Portland, Oregon. I was so excited to visit the city of roses but we couldn’t possibly do everything in Portland for a day so we tried to do as much as possible. Here are some of the places we got to see while we were there:
For lunch, we drove over to the Pearl district and went to a Peruvian restaurant called Andina Restaurant. I would highly recommend this place! Excellent food and service. We had the Causa Solterito which is a Yukon gold potato with a salad of green beans, fresh corn, cotija cheese, tomatoes, and avocado. We also ordered Ceviche mango verde (green mango and poached prawns in a passion fruit leche de tigre) and Chorizo (cured Spanish sausage). For drinks, my husband had the Peruvian beer Cusquena and I had the Mojito served with sugar cane spear.
The Portland Saturday Market was our next destination. It has been operating since 1974 and it showcases local handcrafted goods. We bought two urchin-print pillowcases from Appetite – handcrafted and handprinted designed goods inspired by botanical images. You should check their website out 🙂 We also checked out the Powell’s bookstore and spent almost 2 hours browsing all the different rooms and books. I bought a recipe book called The Sugar cube – a tiny pink food cart in Portland that serves some of the finest desserts the city has to offer. Can’t wait to try making their toasted coconut panna cotta recipe!
To end our day, we waited in line to buy a box of sinful treats from Voodoo Doughnuts. I have seen a lot of this charming donut shop from watching Food network and I was honestly star strucked when I ordered the voodoo doll. We also took home their bacon maple bar, grape ape (with vanilla frosting, grape dust and lavender sprinkles), mango tango (filled with mango jelly and topped with vanilla frosting and tang), and their blueberry cake. All of them mouth-watering and delicious!
